Listen,Silent.
Have you noticed that they are spelled with exactly the same letters?
Now that your teeth, tongue, and jaw are getting a bit of a breather, its the perfect time to tap in and communicate with this highly innervated area of the body.
Hooked right in with the jaw is the ear, so as we silence the activity of the mouth, our ears can begin to listen more intently to the goings on deep within the body.
The sensory nerves and their branches & tertiaries that emerge straight from your brain and innervate this now-quieting part of your body will allow you to listen in the silence and amplify your sensory experience including the intention of giving the muscles and bones a well-deserved rest.
During your time of contemplation and doing NOTHING, (as recommended in the 8 Steps for Success), is the ideal opportunity to open a dialogue with your body amid the silence.

feel your jaw. What is the condition of your jaw muscles?
Are they tight? Bumpy? If you gently press on them, do you feel strange and uncomfortable things? Are they begging for some TLC? What about Your throat muscles? In the front, that space just under your chin and then reaching down to your clavicles.
What is it doing unattended? Is it sucking up into your jaw? Is it pasted to the front of your spine? What if you tried to expand - WIDE - the tunnel -tube that goes from the back of your throat all-the-way-down to your stomach!!?? (Hint: it will help when you make it over to the Hold Your Tongue, Straighten up & Breathe Right! Page) What about Your Neck muscles, the sides and back part of your spine?
It is sore? Stiff? What happens to your neck when you open up that long tube in the throat? Then rotate your head and neck in opposite directions? |
What about your ears? Can you soften your ears? There are muscles in the earflap itself!
There are muscles in the ear canal. There are muscles (and nerve endings) all around the outside of the ear. There are muscles and tubes connecting your ears to your throat! What does it feel like when you zoom in your attention on those areas and consciously let them release the grip. Can you? Can you move your ears? Can you feel your scalp drag off the skull as you do? How about if you let your ears drip off your scalp as if you could drape them out on the pillow? Can you attune your ears better to the silence and listen to the sounds your body makes? To your breath? The sound of swallowing? The sound of your voice? To your surroundings? Can you echo-locate the origin of your voice?Where is your voice coming from as the air travels from the lungs to the mouth? (Because you really only speak on an exhale)
Is it in your skull? The back of your throat? Does it have to go around or through a speed bump lump in your throat? Is it coming from your chest? From your heart? Lower? What about your laughter? Where is THAT coming from? |
